Marleen NewmanProf. Newman is an NCARB-certified registered architect whose scope of expertise spans architectural design and interiors project management, urban design and planning, and historic architecture and design (including adaptive reuse and historic tax credit projects). Before joining the faculty in 2003, she worked as an architect and designer with several Boston-area architecture firms, including the noted modernist firm Moshe Safdie Associates, and on commercial and residential architecture projects in Bloomington.  She received her undergraduate degree from Mount Holyoke College and master’s in architecture from Harvard University.

Prof. Newman teaches several design studios as well as courses covering such topics as historic preservation, the history of architecture, and furniture design and theory. Her academic research interests include urban design, interactive design, green design, modular design and post-occupancy design studies.
