Prof. Smith is an Assistant Professor whose areas of professional expertise include instructional design, instructional materials development, website design and landscape design. She received her undergraduate design degree from Arizona State University, master’s degrees in art history and instructional systems technology from Brigham Young University and Indiana University respectively, and her doctorate in instructional systems technology from Indiana University. Beyond her academic career, she has also worked as a landscape designer and architectural draftsperson for firms in Utah and Arizona.
Prof. Smith’s primary areas of academic research include design education, uses of instructional illustrations and information design, and visual literacy. Her publications and academic conference presentations have analyzed a variety of instructional design issues. Prof. Smith teaches visual design courses in the Design Studies Group.
