Janis ShafferA recipient of such teaching awards as the IU Trustees Teaching Award and the Student Alumni Association Student Choice Award for Outstanding Faculty, Prof. Shaffer has been a faculty member in our department since 1992 and in that time has prepared thousands of students for careers in the retail industry worldwide. She is deeply committed to working with students in their extracurricular organizations to help them build their leadership, organizational and communication skills; introducing students to retail industry leaders through on-campus guest speaker presentations; and leading annual student trips to national and international retail trade shows and corporations. Prior to her academic career, Prof. Shaffer worked for May Company in corporate buying and store management leadership positions. Her areas of expertise and academic interest include retail buying and management, and retail culture.

Prof. Shaffer received her undergraduate and graduate degrees from Purdue University. She teaches a variety of retail courses and senior seminars, including apparel industries, principles of merchandising, and retail management.
